State government urged to investigate container deposit scheme following price-gouging concerns

The Victorian government is being urged to investigate increases to the price of drinks after the launch of the container collection scheme with reports a slab of beer has increased in price by $10.

Director at Reloop Asia-Pacific, Rob Kelman says the cost of a slab should have only gone up by 40 cents.

“So that’s why we’re asking the government to do what Queensland and New South Wales both did when they started their schemes,” he told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen, filling in for Ross and Russel.

He also says it’s not clear if manufacturers are actually price-gouging.

“It might be that there’s other reasons that a case of beer may or may not gone up,” he said.
