State opposition reveals plan to put ‘cops in shops’
Police will be deployed at major shopping centres across Melbourne and Geelong if the Coalition wins the state election.
Shadow minister for police, Edward O’Donohue, told Neil Mitchell about the $7.2 million proposal on Thursday.
He said 12 shop fronts would be established at the following shopping centres and would be attended by at least two officers during business hours.
- The Glen
- Knox City
- Fountain Gate
- Westfield, Geelong
“It’s about crime prevention and deterrence but it’s also about community engagement,” Mr O’Donohue said.
