A busy stretch of Warrigal Road in Melbourne’s east is expected to be closed all Thursday morning.

A landslide caused by Tuesday’s torrential rain caused the closure in both directions between Canterbury and Riversdale roads at Surrey Hills.

VicRoads on Wednesday told 3AW Breakfast they couldn’t put an ETA on the road being fixed.

“We’re currently securing electricity cables,” Aidan McGann, VicRoads metro southeast regional director, said.

“Our plan is to open the road as soon as possible but it’s very hard to tell (when it will re-open).”

VicRoads advises motorists to use Highfield Road, Elgar Road, Station Street or Middleborough Road as alternative routes.

There are minimal delays in the area.
