Students fight back after State Government stops Christmas pageant
Malvern Primary School students have overturned a ban on their traditional Christmas pageant.
The pageant was cancelled due to state government guidelines on religious education, but the students challenged the decision with a petition — and won.
However, the pageant will take place in the school’s recreation centre during lunchtime, instead of at St John’s Anglican Church where it has been held for the past 30 years.
School Captain Andrew Procopiou told Neil Mitchell he’s happy with the compromise.
“The whole school participates, and it’s really fun,” Andrew said.
Andrew said their petition received more than 500 signatures.
