Study finds alarming number of injured patients at Victoria’s largest trauma centre used substances
New data has found an alarming number of alcohol and drug affected Victorians are ending up in the country’s largest adult trauma centre after serious injury or incidents of violence.
First author and monash school of public health and preventative medicine PhD candidate, Georgina Lau, says they looked at over 1200 patients who went through the trauma centre at the Alfred Hospital.
“Alcohol was … our most commonly detected substance, … about one-in-four patients tested positive for alcohol,” she told Tony Moclair.
