Suppression, or sensitivity? Neil Mitchell raises questions over Q&A audience member being booted for pro-Russian views

Neil Mitchell has questioned whether Australia is becoming increasingly “unwilling” to accept contrary opinions on social and political issues.

It comes after an audience member of the ABC’s Q&A program was told to leave on Thursday night after he voiced pro-Russian views.

Neil Mitchell said it sat uncomfortably with him.

“I thought the young man was wrong, by the way, he was talking nonsense and promoting a Russian propaganda line,” the 3AW Mornings host said on Friday.

“But unlike Russia, this country believes in free speech.

“This speaks to a broader issue.

“Are we just unwilling to accept a contrary view?

“Have we got to the stage in this country where you are not allowed to have an opinion if it steps outside the popular view?”
