Surgeon fights for life after being attacked outside hospital

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being king hit outside the Box Hill Hospital.

The man aged in his 40s, believed to be a surgeon at the Box Hill hospital, is in a critical condition in The Alfred hospital.

An off-air caller to Neil Mitchell said the man was concerned about people smoking near the doors when he was attacked.

He fell and hit his head.

He was taken by ambulance to The Alfred with critical head injuries at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night.

Police are investigating.

They want to speak with the man pictured below.
