Surprise storm cell smashes Melbourne, Geelong and surrounds

Melburnians were caught off guard on Thursday morning after a surprise storm cell smashed Melbourne, Geelong and surrounds.

The weather bureau issued a severe thunderstorm warning just after 8am on Thursday.

“I had to pull over because my windscreen wipers couldn’t keep up with the rain – the lightning every three or four seconds was bang, bang, bang – it’s pretty full on,” caller Nick told Neil Mitchell from Geelong.
