Suspected APEX gang member expected to be deported after his jail term

An ice-using 19-year-old who endured a hellish, parentless upbringing in Sudan before moving to Australia is expected to be deported after being jailed for armed robbery.

The man is among two suspected APEX gang members, revealed in the Herald Sun, expected to have their visas revoked after serving their jail sentences.

However, with the majority of Apex members either too young to be deported, or Australian citizens, shadow attorney general John Pesutto says tougher sentencing is the answer.

‘We’ve had a concern for a very long time… The level of sentences that we are seeing for very violent and high violent crimes, across our state, and also decision related to bail, are just not strong enough.’
