Suspicious fire at Alphington paper mill forces closure of Chandler Highway

UPDATE: The Chandler Highway has been re-opened after a suspicious fire at the old Alphington paper mill.

But motorists can expect lengthy delays during Thursday’s morning peak.

Emergency services were called to the mill just after 4am to find a few pallets on fire.

Due to access issues, it took around 50 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Police are treating it suspiciously.
