A bid to build a helipad on a Sorrento property has propelled an online petition to stop it from going ahead.

Josh Marks’ family owns a property nearby and raised concerns after they received a letter from the owner about the proposal.

Mr Marks has launched a bid to stop the development on Ivanhoe Street with an online petition.

He told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings there were numerous concerns.

‘We are concerned that it won’t be limited to four helicopter movements a month,’ he said.

‘If he does sell the property further down the line, no one knows exactly whether a new buyer would be bound by that promise to residents.

‘If it does turn into another Lindsay Fox, this could turn into a day in day out operation which the local residents don’t want in their backyard.’

In the letter, the owner says there would be four movements a month.

It also reads residents who have been sent the letter would have to consent to the helipad and it would be subject to council approval.

Mornington Peninsula Shire has told 3AW Mornings no planning application has been received for a helipad.
