A community centre which was trashed and vandalised in December has been cleaned up by a group of dedicated locals.

The Ecoville Community Park in Tarneit was left with graffiti covered walls, buildings damaged and windows smashed after a group of African youths seemingly took up residency for 18 months.

But last night the Tarneit community came out in force to clean it up.

Luke Mitchell, Chairman of the Ecoville Estate Committee told 3AW Mornings the working group went through 20 litres of paint to cover the graffiti.

“We had about 60 to 80 residents come through the course of the evening,” he said.

“Once we finished the work to watch 20 kids running around the park is just amazing.

“There was some big smiles on their faces, it’s something that hasn’t been seen in our park for quite some time.”
