Taskforce to tackle Melbourne’s gang problem

Criminals could face deportation as part of an onslaught by federal police aimed at the gangs behind Melbourne’s crime problem.

The Prime Minister is helping launch the effort by Federal Police, Victoria Police and intelligence agencies this morning.

The man behind the taskforce, Latrobe MP Jason Wood, told Neil Mitchell it would bridge the gap in resources which Victoria Police currently does not have.

“It would also provide specialist equipment when it comes to issues such as social media, but even at a practical level when it comes to search warrants,” he explained.
