Federal teal MP Monique Ryan says a proposed bike-only highway would see more Melburnians opt to leave the car at home.

The 10km stretch of road would start in Box Hill and end in Hawthorn, with Mrs Ryan outlining the numerous benefits to building a highway exclusively for the use of bikes.

“There’s lots of people in Melbourne who would like to get around on their bikes but they don’t because they don’t feel safe on the roads,” she said on 3AW Mornings.
