Carey made a total of 111 runs on day three of the Boxing Day test against South Africa before being dismissed by Marco Jansen.
It’s the first century by an Australian wicketkeeper in nine years.
Mr Snewin saw Carey rise through the ranks at Glenelg and said he’s just “so proud”.
“He’s such a beautiful boy,” Mr Snewin said on 3AW Afternoons.
“And he’s been such a wonderful player for our club, as a junior and when he came into senior cricket.
“And I know how much he battled after he came back from the AFL.
“He’s just a wonderful boy and it just made me feel so proud.”
Carey was also on the list of AFL club GWS while Kevin Sheedy was coaching.
Sheedy suggested Carey focus on his cricket due to the dearth of talent at the Giants in its formative years.
“Giving him the advice that cricket might be the bow in his life, a chance to do something,” Sheedy said on 3AW Afternoons.
“While he was downhearted, he was very determined to take that advice, and I thought it was a great credit to him and his attitude.”
