Investigators have been told the girl was on a school excursion on the 15th of November, when the attempted abduction occurred at around 10:30am.
An unknown male, who pretended to be a teacher, then intervened and the girl was not physically injured.
The offender was accompanied by a woman, and both left the area together on foot east on Flinders Lane and south on Russell Street.
The man is described as having dark-coloured skin and a slim build, and the woman is perceived to be Asian in appearance, with a solid build.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or with any other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
