Teenage girls hailed as heroes after rescue on Victoria’s surf coast
Two 15-year-old girls have been lauded for their brave efforts in saving two men who got into trouble in waters off Lorne last weekend.
As reported in the Geelong Advertiser, mates Amy Kenny and Hannah Keane were settling in to watch a movie at the Surf Lifesaving Club when a woman ran in and said someone was drowning.
“It was very confronting, this lady ran in saying, ‘Please come help!'” Amy told Neil Mitchell.
The pair, who have participated in Nippers together since they were 7-years-old, ran out onto the beach and saw two people struggling about 60 metres from shore.

The girls had never performed a real-life rescue before and had only just started to patrol under supervision.
“He was in a lot of trouble, he was coming in and out of consciousness,” Hannah said.
“It’s just really lucky that we were there,” Amy added.
Both men were taken to hospital and have since recovered.
