Teenage gold medallist opens up about ‘brutal’ impact of Melbourne’s lockdown

The Melbourne teenager who won gold at the Commonwealth Games has opened up about the “brutal” impact lockdown had on her preparation and motivation.

Charli Petrov, just 14, won gold in the women’s synchronised 10-metre platform alongside Melissa Wu.

She is the youngest person on the team.

Speaking on 3AW, Charli told Neil Mitchell she spent “at least” six months out of the pool while Melbourne shut down to manage the COVID pandemic.

“It was not a very good time for me,” she said.
