Teenager with autism bashed by gang in suspected case of mistaken identity

An autistic teenager has been bashed at Caroline Springs in a suspected case of mistaken identity.
His mother said the boy had been left traumatised by what happened at the shopping centre on Lake Street.
“He’s not too well, at the moment,” she said.
“Obviously he’s nursing some bruising on his face, but mentally he has just declined quite badly.
“He’s not in a very good spot, at all.

She said her son was approached by the group asked if he knew “Harry” before he was set upon.
“My son doesn’t know personally, or associate, with either of those guys in the footage – or the person they mentioned,” she said.
The woman said youth gang violence was a significant problem in the area.
Police have confirmed they’re investigating the attack.
