Tens of thousands of dollars in old banknotes found in Melbourne garden

A Donvale woman has found tens of thousands of dollars in likely decades old banknotes while gardening.

The woman – who wishes to remain anonymous – was initially surprised to discover what police say is tens of thousands of dollars of old-style paper banknotes, hidden at the front of her Donvale home on Friday.

The money has now been handed to police who are trying to find the owner or whether it’s linked to a crime.

The owner has three months to come forward to the money falls to the Donvale woman.

Police are not releasing the exact amount of cash.
