The acknowledgement from the Wallabies that sets a ‘rather difficult precedent’

Jacqui Felgate

Tom Elliott says the Wallabies have set a potentially troublesome precedent after they sung the Australian national anthem in an indigenous language ahead of Saturday clash with England at Brisbane.

The team sang Advance Australia Fair in Yugambeh, a language used by Indigenous Australians living in south-east Queensland.

Tom Elliott said he was a “all for” acknowledging Indigenous Australians in the national anthem, but questioned whether this was the right way to go.

“It sets a rather difficult precedent,” he said.
