The AFL says there are limits when sledging on the field.

On Monday Sam McClure broke the story of a schism at Geelong after a VFL sledge got too personal.

AFL football operations manager Mark Evans told Sports Today modern players should know what is acceptable.

‘I would have thought, in this day and age, you don’t go anywhere you shouldn’t,’ Evans said.

He said Kieren Jack’s sensational game after a tough week showed trying to get into players’ heads may not have any effect anyway.

In a wide-ranging interview, Evans also spoke about:

  • Players and clubs being discreet when meeting during the season.

  • Details having been sought from Port Adelaide about why Hamish Hartlett spent six minutes off the ground for a concussion test.

  • The success of Thursday night footy.
