The Age has apologised for an embarrassing ‘stuff-up’ that led to an ad commiserating the Western Bulldogs on a grand final ‘loss’ being printed in Monday’s paper.

Victoria University, which works closely with the club, bought the half-page ad.

Awkwardly, it read congratulations ‘… In spite of the disappointment of the grand final loss’.

Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said Victoria University had every reason to be a ‘bit narky’ with the paper for the mistake.

Editor-in-chief Mark Forbes got on the front foot on Monday to say sorry.

‘It’s a stuff-up, there’s no way around that,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘We certainly apologise to Victoria University.

‘I suppose the only positive is that it shows they were sticking by the Bulldogs in victory or defeat.’

He said two versions of the ad had been created and the wrong one put in the paper.
