There’s an investigation into juryless rape trials and the ongoing debate on banning wigs and gowns in court as part of a blueprint to overhaul the justice system’s approach to sexual assault cases.

Former chief magistrate, Nick Papas KC, says he personally doesn’t like wearing the wigs and gowns, but he knows people that do and it’s because it gives them a sense of formality.

Regarding court trials, Ross and Russ were not surprised to learn 77 per cent of listeners preferred going through a jury than the judge alone.

“Most cases are managed by the magistrates alone, but in serious cases, the history and our entire legal system has proceeded in jury trials,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.
