The bold step lord mayor is taking to slow down ‘rat run’ drivers

Lord mayor Nick Reece is defending his plan to dramatically alter the speed limit in East Melbourne.

Often used by motorists to cut through the city, Mr Reece is pushing to reduce speed limits to 30km/h in the area following feedback from local residents.

He told Tom Elliott something had to be done to deter speeding drivers.

“East Melbourne seems to be the rat run capital of our city,” he told Tom Elliott.

“People are speeding through neighbourhood areas and the locals are sick of it.”
