A man is in custody in Tasmania after an incident on the Spirit of Tasmania overnight.

3AW caller Ian told the Rumour File the man allegedly appeared to be on drugs and was threatening passengers with a knife.

“They got him down the escalators … he’s grabbed a fire extinguisher, and he’s trying to smash his way out through the big waterproof door at the pedestrian entrance, and what would happen? The fire extinguisher goes off,” he said.

A spokesperson from Tasmania Police says the ship had only travelled 50m when the captain was forced to abort the scheduled 6:45 departure from Devonport.
