The challenge for Albanese as new poll reveals how undecided voters are leaning
A new poll reveals undecided voters are leaning towards the Coalition, after a horror first week of campaigning for Labor.
Focus group research conducted for the Australian Financial Review reveals Anthony Albanese is regarded as “dull, disinterested, uninspiring”.
Political marketing expert from the Australian National University, Dr Andrew Hughes, says it’s a “big road to climb” but a win is not outside the realm of possibility for Scott Morrison.
“It is because of Anthony Albanese’s performance in week one,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
“It’s been a shocking performance. It wasn’t just the gaffe on those economic figures but also then the heckler who got into an invite only event.”
Dr Hughes says the leadership debates are “critical” for Mr Albanese.
“He needs to make a comeback, he needs to win us over, he needs to show us he can be a Prime Minister,” he said.
“There’s a huge difference between being an opposition leader and being Prime Minister and I think he needs to make that leap in our minds.”
