A workplace relations expert says there is a heightened awareness for sexual harassment and more conversations happening about what is and isn’t appropriate in Australian workplaces.

In a wide-ranging interview on 3AW Mornings, executive director at CT Managment Group Diana Taylor spoke to Neil Mitchell about the changing tide as well as some advice in the current climate.

“I don’t think romance in the workplace is dead, but I do think you have to be careful about how you negotiate it,” she said.

She said people’s awareness was heightened to sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace, as well as the appropriateness of certain topics and conversations.

Talking about the prevalence of sexual harassment in the hospitality industry and her own experience in the workplace, Ms Taylor said it can be debilitating and confusing to navigate.

“Nobody is powerless, everybody has options within these scenarios,” she said.

“This is Australia. When this stuff is introduced into the workplace, where you just about doing your job and doing it to the best of your ability, it is fundamentally wrong and we have to eradicate it.”
