One motorist has been filmed using an innovate license plate curtain on the Monash to try avoid paying tolls.

As the car drives under the toll point, a small curtain is seen being remotely draped over the number plate.

“This is quite sneaky,” Drive.com.au’s James Ward told Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

“These things have been around for quite a while.”

Transurban provided the follow statement to 3AW:

More than 99 percent of people do the right thing and pay the required toll to use CityLink.
Whether driving on toll roads or the broader road network, it is illegal to cover up number plates and penalties apply if people get caught doing so.
