The Commonwealth Games are on — so where is everybody?

People are deserting the Gold Coast during the Commonwealth Games.

Tom Elliott has headed north to broadcast 3AW Drive from the Gold Coast during the event, but he’s found a lot fewer people around than expected.

One taxi driver told Tom it’s quieter than it would normally be at this time of year.

Another local, business owner Danny, said he shut his shop and left town because the local council had warned of a prohibitive influx of people to the area.

It appears they may have misjudged the situation.
