The concerning behaviour on the rise among Victorian drivers

More Victorian motorists admit they’re intentionally speeding on our roads.

The results from the latest Transport Accident Commission survey found 42 per cent of respondents admitted to speeding on 60km/h roads, up from 39 per cent in 2020.

On 100km/h roads, 45 per cent owned up to speeding, compared to 40 per cent two years ago.

TAC head of road safety, Samantha Cockfield, says lockdown may explain the rise.

“One of the things that did happen while we were in lockdown is people had more opportunities to speed up because there was less congestion … and people may have got used to travelling a bit faster and continued that trend,” she told Dee Dee.

“What we’re really urging people to do is recognise how dangerous it is.”

There have been 149 lives lost on Victoria’s roads so far this year, 18 more than at the same time last year.
