Eager Australians are preparing to jet off overseas from January.

Qantas plans to operate almost 200 return flights per week to selected destinations from early next year.

Chief executive of the Tourism and Transport Forum, Margy Osmond, says “its countries like England, Canada, Singapore, New Zealand of course, potentially Japan” that’ll be open to Australians first.

But she says international travel will require a lot of pre-planning.

“The critical issue is going to be massive research before you travel,” Ms Osmond told Ross and Russel.

“The days of sort of saying ‘I’ll always keep my passport in my handbag because you never know when I might want to fly’, that’s long passed and each country has a slightly different approach to what they’re going to require off you as a traveller.”
