A dangerous road practice is alarmingly common in Australia, a new Queensland study has revealed.

A staggering 98 per cent of people surveyed admit to tailgating.

The practice is a common complaint, and causes a great deal of stress on the roads.

But owner of MD Drive School, Mitch Baston, says it’s not always an aggressive act.

“The main reason people do tailgate is rushing,” he told Dee Dee.

“They’re thinking about what they’re doing during the day and a lot of times I find that people don’t even realise they’re tailgating.”

Mr Baston said drivers should allow two to three seconds between them and the car in front in order to reduce the risk of a a collision.
