The dangers of trampolines for kids

Medical experts say they are ‘alarmed’ by a recent spike in trampoline-related injuries.

And with Christmas around the corner, there’s even more cause for concern.

Despite many safety improvements, including nets, broken legs and head injuries are on the rise.

There’s been 2,200 hospital admissions over the past five years.

Dr Warwick Teague, director of trauma at the Royal Children’s Hospital, said improved safety had perhaps bred complacency.

‘Unfortunately the mindset of a safe trampoline has, I think, encouraged the absence of supervision,’ he explained on 3AW Mornings.

Dr Teague had two simple trampoline rules.

  • One person on the trampoline at a time. Always.
  • Always have adult supervision.
