“Middle class” drug users face losing their passports and driving licences under a proposal being considered in the United Kingdom.

And Tom Elliott says it could work in Australia.

Young professionals and social users caught with or trying to source “party” drugs would have their passport and licence confiscated under a plan aimed at tackling the growing issue of illicit drug use.

“Taking away their right to drive, and their right to travel, I think, could really work,” Tom Elliott said.

“If you’re a middle class drug user and you suddenly have to admit to your employer you no longer have a driver’s licence, or passport, and can’t travel for work, that might make you think twice.”
