Nicole Livingstone says it was a final gift from her mother.

Before her sudden death in July, 2001, Nicole’s mum had left behind a vial of blood to be tested at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

It came back positive with the BRCA2 gene, which can increase the risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer in women.

“That’s my mum’s legacy, that she left this gift for me to empower myself,” Nicole told Neil Mitchell on What Makes You Tick.
