The great sickie temptation: Christmas Eve on a Monday
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, except perhaps for those employers who will be left in the lurch on Monday!
Experts say many Aussies will be tempted to take a sickie on Christmas Eve.
Christie Toy, workplace law expert with Shine Lawyers, told Kate and Quarters work absenteeism will rise by 40 per cent around holiday events.
“It is very tempting, when Christmas Eve falls after a weekend and before two public holidays,” Christie said.
“There is a great deal of temptation from employees to call in sick.
“What they (employers) can do is ask for evidence of the staff member’s illness, under the legislation you can ask for evidence of absence for even one day’s illness.
“If they’ve uploaded photos of themselves or checked into the pub, that’s where employees really come unstuck!”
