The hi-tech cameras set to catch out motorists abusing road laws
Motorists using their phones and not wearing seatbelts are set to be caught out by hi-tech cameras at up to 200 sites across the state, which will launch on Saturday following a three-month trial.
Australian Road Safety Foundation CEO, Russell White, said it’s clear many drivers aren’t wearing seatbelts and are distracted by their phones, with the road toll “heading in the wrong direction”.
“Mobile phone distraction is present whether it’s hands free or hands held, research tells us that the level of distraction is exactly the same,” Mr White told 3AW Breakfast.
