The ‘hurtful dilemma’ residents at an Albury retirement village are facing

Tom Elliott

Elderly residents at an Albury retirement village are fearful about their futures because they can’t afford price hikes at the facility.

Murray Gardens Retirement Village is increasing fees by 18 per cent for low care residents, and 32 per cent for those with higher care needs.

Resident Ian Anderson says it’s “out of proportion” and will impact residents “dreadfully”.

“RetireAustralia says they’re not going to throw anybody out in the street but they’re going to rack up the charges against them so that when they do eventually leave … those fees will have to be paid somehow,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“It’s a very hurtful dilemma.”
