The impact obstructive sleep apnea has on the brain
New research has revealed obstructive sleep apnea, also known as OSA, may cause early cognitive decline in middle-aged men, even those who are otherwise healthy and not obese.
OSA occurs when the throat muscles relax during sleep, blocking airflow into the lungs and causing breathing to stop, often multiple times per hour.
Professor Romola Bucks, School of Psychological Science at The University of Western Australia, explained the impact the disorder has on the brain, symptoms to look out for and the treatment methods used to treat it.
