The key things Australia can do to help Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last night thanked Australia for its additional package of military support in his wartime address to the Australian government.
Chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, Stefan Romaniw, says “we now need to make sure we end this whole disaster” and there are a few things Australia can do to help.
“Keep up with the sanctions, give military support and understand that the only way to stop Putin is to have this international support, which is now military,” he told Ross and Russel.
“The Ukrainian people will rebuild, but at the same time Putin needs to be stopped.”
Mr Romaniw says it’s “very, very difficult” to tell who is currently winning the war.
“In terms of determination and wanting to finish this, Ukraine has got it on the scoreboard,” he said.
But Mr Romaniw said it’s tricky to know how Russia is travelling.
“We’re seeing that they’re defecting. We’re seeing that they’re even running over their own leadership with tanks. They don’t want to be there,” he said of Russian troops.
But Mr Romaniw says it’s hard to tell exactly how Russia is faring because “Putin is likely to do anything”.
