Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a statement to the nation following the aborted Wagner Group rebellion, thanking the mercenaries who stood down to avoid bloodshed.

Channel 9 News UK and Europe correspondent, Brett McLeod, says the deal between the Kremlin and Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner Group is “clearly off” as Putin stated the organisers of the rebellion would be “brought to justice”.

Mr McLeod also claimed Putin gave “no indication” of what happens from here, but believes the war between Russia and Ukraine would only end if there was a “regime change” in Russia.
