A professor in Ukrainian studies says “all the chess pieces” are in place for Russia to launch a Ukraine invasion.

But the problem is only Vladimir Putin knows just how seriously Russia is considering getting on the offensive.

Emeritus Professor Marko Pavlyshyn told Tom Elliott reclaiming a former Soviet territory, neutralising Ukraine as a democratic force right on its border and the geopolitical strength it would show NATO and the United States could all be motivating factors.

“They are three pretty compelling reasons for him (Putin) to raise to threat level around Ukraine,” he said.
