The major concern putting Gen Zers off having children

A report has found rising fears about climate change and global warming are contributing to Gen Z adults not wanting to have children.

Communication expert Madeline Miller told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross and Russel mistrust in major institutions is a significant part of the problem.

“We can’t say ‘climate change isn’t real, climate change isn’t a bad thing’, they see it, they feel it, they know it is,” she said.

Child and adolescent mental health psychologist Clare Rowe told Tom Elliott some children and adolescents are showing traits of mental health issues as a result of these concerns.

“They’re not motivated to do much because they have been convinced they won’t have a life when they’re older,” Ms Rowe said.
