The ‘massive issue’ contributing to current housing crisis

Whitehorse City councilor Blair Barker says  a “massive issue” remains around the amount of vacant homes which continue to be taxed.

As attention begins to turn to how the current housing crisis can be eased, Cr Barker said in his council area alone roughly 8,000 homes aren’t be used.

“In the City of Whitehorse, my estimation is (about) 8,000 (empty homes),” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.

“I’m taking that from census data…in many instances I even think that’s being under-reported. There’s certainly a massive issue around here.”
