The Melburnian who spent over $20,000 to fortify his house

Back in March, the Crime Stats Agency recorded almost half a million criminal incidents for 2025, the highest reported by the agency.

One Ashburton resident estimates he’s spent over $20,000 to secure his house given Melbourne’s crime wave.

Chris Sallmann told 3AW host Shane McInnes that ongoing concerning activity in his community had prompted action.

“I’ve had people in my front garden at night, I’ve had neighbours who’ve said to me they have people in their back gardens,” Mr Sallmann said.
