The milk levy crisis is a global issue, buying non-supermarket branded milk will not help

Buying or paying more for milk from farmers will not help.

Only 6-7% of the milk Murray Goulburn sell to supermarkets goes into supermarket home brands.

Milk companys don’t make that much money from fresh milk, the real money comes from yoghurt and baby formula.

This is a global issue, over 40% of milk is exported.

Tom Elliott questioned Waleed Aly’s editorial on ‘The Project’ last night where he said ‘if only we paid a bit more for milk and cheese’.

Sorry Waleed, your heart is in the right place, but you haven’t thought it through.

The reason milk prices are falling is less demand and more supply, ‘it’s the iron law of economics’.
