With Melburnians free to travel throughout the metropolitan area from Friday, the Mornington Peninsula is expecting to be swamped with visitors.

Mornington Peninsula mayor, Despi O’Connor, says there are mixed feelings among business owners in the area.

“They’re popping champagne bottles, but there’s also a sense of anxiety,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“They’re worried. How are they going to get staff?”

Councillor O’Connor says the Mornington Peninsula’s high vaccination rate is comforting as the area prepares to host visitors from all over the city.

“Our residents down here are vaccinated in high numbers … we should get to 70 per cent double dose by the end of the day … so we’re a bit ahead of the game,” she said.
