The Department of Defence has spent a staggering $800,000 on refurbishing an office for Minister Richard Marles that he didn’t request or even know about.

The first Mr Marles learnt of the office was when the nameplate was taken from his existing office to put on the door of the newly refurbished high security suite.

Neil Mitchell says it’s an “extraordinary” case of “bureaucratic madness”.

News Corp senior correspondent Charles Miranda uncovered the expensive spend through a series of freedom of information requests.

“The most galling thing is to this day no one has been held accountable,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“They even went to the trouble of getting removalists to move his stuff and again, none of this was requested, no one was even knowing about it.”
