A new community safety initiative has hit the streets of Melbourne.

Two million dollars has been committed to the program, which involves 11 officers patrolling ‘trouble hotspots’ throughout the CBD, as well as other areas such as Docklands, East Melbourne, Kensington, Southbank and Carlton.

Press PLAY to hear Melbourne Mayor Nick Reece explain how the program will work, including what powers the officers will have to manage ‘challenging situations’

“Victoria Police have been involved in this as we’ve been putting it together, and they’re very supportive. From their perspective, it’s an extra resource on the street,” Mayor Reece said on 3AW Breakfast.
